SUMMER 2 SESSION
Our Summer 2 session kicked off this evening! If you'd still like to sign up (just a touch late), we have spots available in our middle school and advanced rider groups. Head to the Stack Team app to grab one.
SAWYER
Okay, we've really been hyping up Sawyer, our new sign-up system. And we're almost there. It will be live by July 30th. Watch for an email and a Facebook post when it launches. We think this one is going to make life easier for everyone.
RODEO PARADE
EBC kids and adults decked out their bikes in red, white, and blue streamers and handed out candy at the Rodeo Parade. Afterward, EBC treated everyone to ice cream. Big thanks to all who came out and to the riders who kept pedaling through the heat!
Congratulations to EBC ride volunteers Elizabeth and Samantha for finishing the Firecracker 50 team relay in Breckenridge! Over 900 riders took on the course this year, and they did it despite some less-than-great air quality. Which, at 10,000 feet, is a special kind of fun.
The crux of the race was Little French, a climb that neither of them would ever, under any circumstances, choose to ride for fun.
(Yes, one of those names is mine. Writing about yourself in the third person is deeply strange.)
The last newsletter highlighted Chad and Leslie for finishing the Hundo and Hundito and gave them a hard time for not having any pictures. Well, it turns out there was one picture. This one, of Leslie allegedly on the podium, taken by her husband. You'll notice we can't actually see her face.
If anyone would like to start a GoFundMe so Leslie's husband can take a photography class, please email the board at yourwifeisonthepodiumgetagoodpicture@evergreenbikeclub.org. (Just kidding. Mostly.)
Congratulations again, Leslie!
Also, a big shout-out to EBC kids Cole and Hadleigh! These siblings both raced at Crested Butte. Cole (left) took 3rd place in the Junior Cross Country race, and Hadleigh (right, rocking a purple Melly) took 4th in the Junior Sport Downhill. Great job, you two!
If you are an EBC kid or adult and participate in a mountain bike endeavor, email samantha@evergreenbikeclub.org to be featured in our newsletter.
Meet Mardi Jones!
How long have you been volunteering with EBC?
Been volunteering from the start!
Favorite trail?
Happier Camper at Trestle, and PBR at 18 Road.
Favorite bike?
My Santa Cruz 5010 27.5" — super light and agile!
What's your favorite part of volunteering with EBC?
I love seeing how much and how quickly the kids progress, and seeing them make new friends to ride with!
How many bikes are in your garage?
I have a little bit of a bike problem. Right now we have a road bike, a gravel bike, 3 hardtails, 1 full suspension, 2 e-MTBs, and 6 dirt bikes (moto) — and I'm eyeballing another full suspension. I really love bikes!!
T-SHIRTS ARE COMING!
All of our sponsor donations are in, the logos are in, and the design is nearly final. We're working with Buffalo Mountain Apparel to get member t-shirts printed and out the door. Watch for a date very soon.
Not a member yet? Membership is what makes these shirts (and a lot of what we do) possible. You can learn more here.
This month we're shining the spotlight on HandUp, one of our national sponsors this season, and they sent us a box of swag to prove it! Check out the video below.
HandUp got its start in 2014 with a husband-and-wife team and one simple idea: mountain bike gloves didn't have to be boring. Their gloves are known for bold colors, wild patterns, and the sayings printed across the palms. Since then they've grown into a full line of cycling gear and apparel, including youth gloves with an easy velcro cuff that younger riders can manage on their own. The company's name comes from an old cycling tradition — the "hand up," when a spectator passes a rider a bottle or snack from the sidelines as they go by.
That spirit of giving a rider a boost is a pretty good description of what HandUp is doing for our club this season. Thank you, HandUp, for supporting Evergreen Bike Club and our young riders!
